Default A new quest in Underworld, to make it more fun.

We all know that in FoW, you can craft Obsidian Armor as a reward. But in Underworld, the quest is either broken or simply isn't there. I want to make UW worth playing for BALANCED teams, not just farmers. So I had an idea....

A quest that would allow characters to reset their deaths, allowing them to get Survivor if they chose. But to get to this quest, a player would have to complete ALL OTHER quests in the Underworld, in one run. If they didn't want Survivor, they could attempt to kill a high-level boss in exchange for unique items.

"Grenth's Deal"

Initial dialogue: Greetings, mortal. You have protected my domain and earned a reward. But before I can give you this reward, you must defeat the being who has taken my throne. I will unlock the doors. Perhaps you will die, perhaps you will succeed. Either way, I will see you again soon.

Reward Dialogue: Thank you, mortal. I have reclaimed my throne, and my reapers are now at their proper places in my domain. I will give you your reward now. Do you choose to erase your past, removing all deaths and experience points, or do you choose to prove yourself further?

A.) Remove my past, so I may start anew. (player is teleported to their place of origin, at level 1, but still has their armor+equipment)

B.) I will prove myself to you again, Grenth. What must I do?

After choosing to prove yourself again, the whole party is teleported to an arena, where they fight The Unholy One, a mursaat boss capeable of dealing well over 600 damage in a single blow. The boss's skills would be as follows:

Invoke Death: Skill. Deal 400 armor and enchantment ignoring damage to 1 random player.

Screaming Agony: Shout. All foes in the area become Dazed for 30 seconds.

Vortex of Pain: Spell. Create a vortex of pain at this location. All players within the vortex are stripped of enchantments and take -12 health degeneration and -9 energy degeneration.

Cowards Die Slowly: Shout. All foes in the area lose all stances, shouts, and enchantments. Any moving foes in the area suffer 300 damage and are knocked down.

Vampiric Chaos: Hex. For 10 seconds, you steal 20 life per second from each foe in the area.

Insanity: Shout. All conditions The Unholy One is suffering are transfered to all adjacent foes. The conditions are extended by 80%.

Roll The Dice: Boss has 50% chance to steal 10 energy from each foe in the area, all foes in the area have a 50% chance to steal 20 energy from the boss.

Boss Stats: 500hp (to compensate with his massive damage potential). Boss has 40 energy, and can only regain energy through stealing it.

(boss has 40% chance to drop a glob of ectoplasm for each member of the party, either all players get one or none do)

The only way to defeat this boss would be to have mass-interrupt, as even his shouts would have 3 second cast times. Holy damage would do 5x the normal ammount to this boss, to make smite monks wanted ^^

(the boss is designed so that only a team that knows each other pretty well can tackle it. There won't be any concrete farming builds, as this boss can remove any defenses you apply. It is what should be in the Underworld.)

If you manage to defeat The Unholy One, you are granted an "Ornate Tombstone", which spawns two of the following items, it would be the player's choice:

Grenth's Retribution: 15-22 req 9, player would choose the mods, with the Longsword skin, but it would be translucent like the Eternal Shield.

Grenth's Rage: 16-28, req 9. Player would choose the mods. It would have a Sephis Axe skin, but it would be translucent like the Eternal Shield.

Grenth's Fist: 19-35, req 9, player would choose mods, It would have a Ram's hammer skin, but would be translucent like the Eternal Shield.

Grenth's Insanity: max damage staff, req 9 of a particular attribute, +15 energy, +5^50, 20% enchanting, 20% of particular attribute. It would have a Ghostly Staff skin.

Grenth's Eyes: +12 energy (req 9 in a particular attribute) offhand, any two mods the player chooses. It would have the Grim Cesta skin, but would be translucent like the Eternal Shield.

Grenth's Words: max damage wand, req 9 in a particular attribute, any two mods the players choose. It would have a Deadly Cesta Skin, but would be translucent like the Eternal Shield.

Grenth's Protection: 16 armor, req 9 of any attribute, any two mods you would want (-2 in stance, +30hp, whatever), with an Eternal Shield skin.

Grenth's Punishment: 15-28, req 9 marksmanship, player would choose the mods. It would have the Dragos Flat Bow look (massive), but would again be translucent like the Eternal Shield.

Grenth's Sight: 11-22, req 9 Beast Mastery (staff), Pet attacks 50% faster (20%), +30hp, +15 energy, +5^50. (hee hee, beast mastery weapons would pwn). Would be a grarled wooden staff, with a wolf's head up top. Only staff not translucent/smokey, the head would move every once and awhile, growling occasionally.

Grenth's Wrath: 7-17, req 9. Player would choose the three mods on the item. Chromium Shards skin (translucent).

Grenth's Hand: 14-27, req 9. Player would choose the three mods on the item. Ceremonial Spear skin (translucent).

Grenth's Bounty: 9-41, req 9. Player would choose the mods. It would have an Ancient Scythe skin (three "finger" variety).

All items would not be blue, but would be black, and slightly animated (smoke would rise off the items, and the weapon would leave "trails" of where it was when you ran. For an example, set your mouse to "show tracks", and you can get what I mean.)

Although this quest flat-out won't be made, it was fun to think of. I'm tired of the Underworld (pinnacle of Prophecies, an "elite mission", if you will) being farmed by 1-2 guys. The real rewards would be in teams of 8, where they complete every quest in UW.

What do you think?

EDIT:updated list of items, it would be better if players chose every mod.

I think that the horse named "Survivor Too Hard" is dead and well-beaten enough already. I also think that I would very much like to own an Axe with a minimum damage of sixteen.

As much as I desire to do something to this thread, I will refrain, as I must admit it is slightly more innovative than many of it's predecessors and should prove for some (at least minor) amusement in the coming hours. The concept of such an elite boss fight intrigues me, though the rewards most definitely sway me to a position not-so-favorable.

I think that you forgot the Grenths bow .

But apart from that looks like a nice quest, the boss seems way too powerful thou x_X.

Nah, he would follow the same rules as Shiro... blind him, SS him, Spoil Victor him, what have you... i'm just bored with DoA at the moment and kinda let my mind wander :P

As for the weapons, I am just angry that after you beat a campaign, you cannot choose a wand+offhand, just one or the other... same deal with a shield+single hander.. but whatever, I just beat the campaign twice.

Time travel? Sweet.

The idea of a green-dropping-party-wiping boss in the UW is interesting, though.

Seems a tad better thought through than various other examples I've encountered on this forum so far.
I do agree that the boss is too overpowered.
6 skills is too much for a boss packing only monster skills.
Especially with the effect as you've stated.
Also... you forgot Daggers, Scythe and Spear if you like since UW is accessible to all professions.

*EDIT*

And the name Grenth's Grasp is already taken.

I do think they need to add quests with fun rewards to UW, but I'm not so hot on more retarded bosses that deal 10,000 damage per hit. I'd prefer something more like the Iron Forgeman in SF that requires group coordination and timing over hiding behind supertankers and nuking things.

Well, I updated the quest a bit, and made it so that players choose every mod on the two weapons of their choice. Also made the boss slightly less powerful, he can obliterate a party, but he has severely limited health and energy. (i'm thinking mesmer E-Denial ownage)
